Police Car Auction Do's and Dont's By Monique Tarver

Auctions police cars can be a great place to get a car at a fair price or a place to burn. Reduce your chances of getting burned by reading and following this list of two and not do when it comes to any police officer can attend the auction.

What to do

1. Bring with you a mechanic to inspect the engine, transmission, electrical system and check for signs of being in a flood or fire.

2. Arrive early to beat the crowds and avoid distractions when viewing cars.

3. Bring a Kelly Blue Book with you so you do not end up paying more than the vehicle is actually worth.

4. Bring your driver's license to complete the paperwork necessary and sufficient money to pay for the car, if you are the winner.

5. Bring a friend or family member to drive his car home if you just buy one at auction. Also bring along one you speak of bidding wars if you get too attached to a car not to shut down overbidding.

Do not

1. Bid on a car that had not inspected. Just because it looks good on the outside does not mean it will be able to drive once you've paid for it and are willing to drive off the lot. Remember that these vehicles are sold as a son!

2. Lateness. So you do not have enough time to look at all of the vehicles more thoroughly and could find repairs that need to be addressed.

3. Remember to register. You can not bid on any car unregistered. In general, registration ends just before the auction begins.

4. Make sure you remember all the vin numbers match in the main parts of the car as the engine, dashboard, doors and trunk. No matching vin numbers are an indication of a stolen vehicle or have the parts from another vehicle due to repairs to a flood or fire.

5. Bid on any car without fully reading and understanding the rules of the auction. The offer is a legally binding contract that is expected to honor.

While you follow these tips you are on track to have an enjoyable experience at the next auction of police cars that you attend. The most important things to remember: bring a mechanic with you, arrive early, make sure all the numbers match and no more wine supply!
